Description
BDS Series — Carbon Steel Blowdown Separators
The BDS Series Blowdown Separators are carbon steel vessels designed to safely separate flash steam from boiler blowdown discharge. Installed in boiler blowdown systems, these separators reduce thermal shock, control noise, and allow safe disposal or recovery of high-temperature blowdown water. The separated flash steam can be vented or recovered, while liquid blowdown is discharged at reduced energy levels. All units are ASME Code Stamped for reliable industrial operation.
Safe Boiler Blowdown Handling
The BDS Series efficiently handles intermittent or continuous boiler blowdown by separating flash steam from liquid water inside the vessel. This process protects downstream piping, reduces erosion, and improves overall plant safety by controlling pressure and temperature during discharge.
Material Specification
- Body: Carbon Steel
Technical Specification
- Inlet Sizes: 3/4", 1", 1 1/2", 2", 2 1/2"
- Inlet Connection: NPT / 150# Flanged
- Vent Outlet Connection: 150# Flanged
- Maximum Operating Pressure: 150 PSIG
Operating Principles
Boiler blowdown enters the BDS vessel where a sudden pressure reduction causes a portion of the water to flash into steam. The separator provides adequate volume for flash steam to disengage and exit through the vent outlet, while the remaining liquid collects in the lower section of the vessel and is safely discharged. This controlled separation minimizes system stress and improves operational safety.
