Description

CIS Series — Ductile Iron Air/Steam Moisture Separators

The CIS Series Air/Steam Moisture Separators are ductile iron devices designed to remove entrained moisture from steam and compressed air systems. These separators improve system efficiency, protect downstream equipment, and ensure the delivery of clean, dry steam or air in industrial applications.

Effective Moisture Separation

When steam or air containing moisture enters the CIS Series separator, a series of internal baffles forces the flow to change direction multiple times. This sudden change in velocity causes entrained liquid droplets to separate from the vapor stream. Gravity then directs the collected moisture to the bottom of the housing, where it can be discharged through an external drain trap.

Material Specification

  • Body: Ductile Iron

Technical Specification

  • Sizes: 3/4" through 4"
  • Connections: Threaded NPT and 150# Flanged
  • Design: Internal baffle-type moisture separation

Operating Principles

As wet steam or compressed air flows through the CIS Series separator, internal baffles repeatedly redirect the flow path. This action reduces velocity and causes heavier moisture droplets and foreign particles to fall out of suspension. The separated liquid collects at the bottom of the separator and is removed through proper drainage, while dry steam or air exits through the outlet.

CIS Series Models

The CIS Series is available in multiple sizes and connection types, including threaded and flanged configurations. Two body styles are offered to accommodate vertical and horizontal installations, allowing flexibility in system layout.

Applications

  • Steam distribution systems
  • Compressed air systems
  • Process equipment
  • Heat exchangers
  • Industrial piping systems

Notes

For maximum efficiency, CIS moisture separators should be installed with a properly sized condensate drain or steam trap. Correct installation orientation and drainage are essential to ensure effective moisture removal. Consult factory for sizing assistance or application-specific recommendations.
